Case_Study #16 Ultimate Collaboration with Iraqi Teachers

26/04/2013

Park House School (an existing Star Lesson client) engaged Star Lesson to provide the technology and consultancy for a project to help Iraqi teachers in Baghdad to capture and share their teaching excellence with their UK partner schools.

The challenge for Star Lesson was immense – we had to make our iOS app solution work without a wireless network, as well as making sure the system (including the Lesson Land server) was portable and durable enough to be transported to Iraq. Never a bunch to be defeated, we implemented a new feature within our app to record to itself thus not requiring a wireless network. Once the teachers had filmed their lessons the app would then upload them onto the Star Lesson server (a rugged and exceptionally powerful laptop) via a bespoke Star Lesson wireless network that was plug-and-play for the Iraqi teachers.

The project is progressing exceptionally well, with the teachers in Iraq easily able to capture their teaching excellence and upload to the Star Lesson server for sharing.

To further increase the ability to share the best practice coming from Iraq, Star Lesson is creating an area of Lesson Gems (Star Lesson’s cloud based school collaboration website) to enable teachers in Iraq to upload lessons directly into an alliance channel for any Iraqi and UK school to view, comment on and collaborate around. Lesson Gems also has a ‘Project’ feature enabling all users to blog around best practice videos, as well as voting and uploading documents alongside the footage.
